ZIM offers a seamless product engineering process, starting from a prototype to mass production of heavy-duty mechanical micro components made of ceramics and metal alloys. Central manufacturing processes for primary shaped microsystems are based on powder injection molding and lost-wax casting. For industrial application, the entire product engineering process is provided, starting with design and simulation, preparation processes (material, feedstock and tool development), manufacturing up to quality management to determin geometric, mechanical and tribological component properties.
Designated target: With the establishment of the Center for Integrated Micro Manufacturing the KIT pursues the goal of giving the industry and academia access to know-how and skills developed in the former collaborative research center SFB 499 for primary shaped microsystem technology. By easing the way for the transfer of knowledge it is anticipated to increase the sustainability of funding.
Proposition (Offer/Proposal) The strength of the ZIM is based on the integration and coordination of all highly specialized expertise and activities required for a product engineering project. Hence, interface problems can instantly be prevented or detected and mended at an early stage. For that to happen, ZIM makes use of the competencies of the institutions listed below.
Associates: Within the framework of the innovation cluster μ-now! ZIM offers the competencies for primary shaped microsystems technology.
